Mouhoun/Modernization of Civil Status: Safane Achieves Complete Digitization of Birth Registers

Mouhoun: The commune of Safane, in the province of Mouhoun, has made significant progress from October 1 to 10, 2025, in the modernization of its civil status service with the complete digitization of its birth registers, within the framework of the Program for Resilience, Local Governance and Basic Services (PREGOLS).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation was led by the General Directorate for the Modernization of Civil Status (DGMEC) of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, as part of a national initiative to enhance the reliability, efficiency, and security of basic public services.

From October 1 to 10, 2025, a technical team from the DGMEC worked on-site at the Safane town hall to digitize 1,553 registers, including 314 TD type registers, spanning from the 1950s to the present. This effort aims to preserve data essential to citizens’ identities, while simplifying access and backup.

The mission commended the quality of the register conservation by civil status officers, noting the meticulous care in maintaining documents over 70 years old. This diligence reflects a strong commitment to public service and local administrative heritage.

Ali Traore, President of the special delegation (PDS) of Safane, expressed gratitude to the institutional and technical contributors to the operation’s success. He also thanked the Ministry of Territorial Administration for selecting his municipality, noting that the initiative “strengthens trust between citizens and the administration and paves the way for more modern and inclusive local governance.”

The digitization of civil status registers in Safane marks a pivotal moment in the modernization of local governance, demonstrating the authorities’ commitment to providing the population with more reliable, accessible, and forward-looking administrative services.
