Abuja: The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, received Prof. Wautabouna Ouattara, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the West Africa region, in a courtesy visit on Friday, 8 August 2025.
According to African Press Organization, President Touray expressed his support for Prof. Ouattara’s appointment and emphasized the importance of the IMF’s role in the development of a regional market in West Africa. He highlighted the need for programmes that focus on regional stability and integration, urging collaboration with the IMF to achieve these goals.
Prof. Ouattara commended ECOWAS for its efforts in conflict resolution and economic integration within the region. He assured the commitment of the IMF to work closely with ECOWAS and the 14 countries he oversees to tackle issues such as public debt, budget deficits, and fostering economic growth.
